It´s a Bevel Twin even with electric starter but not a Desmo! Construction year 1978.
Many thanks in advance for help!
A follow up letter one year later:
It turns out that there are all sorts of things you can do to mount non stock tires on a Paso, all of which require messing with the bike. In desperation I considered many of these alternatives but in the end could recommend none of them. Some guys have put non stock sizes on the 16" rims and another guy even converted the bike to 17" rims. All of these things just open up a world of problems if you ask me. At minimum gages that don't work and in the worst case suspension and chassis problems.
The solution for me was to pick up a set of Michelin 59Xs (which I've almost used up as the original letter you read was written about a year ago). The reason I was having so much trouble was that Michelin quit making the 59X for about three months last summer and Pirrelli had just stopped making their line that fit the Paso. I scrounged my back tire from a dealer 500 miles away.
Michelin realized they had a captive market and started making the 59X again in September of last year. They're pretty easy to come by now and they work well on the Paso. I was worried at first that they might not be as sticky as I would like. My other bike is a CBR900RR and I ride my Paso pretty hard but as it turns out the 59Xs are fine. They're not really sticky but they don't melt off of your rims either. For the Paso I think that the 59X is a good compound. People who need more stick than the 59X can deliver might need a different bike.
Thanks for any help you might have..
Don't know what my bike would be called in the US but its a 900ss full fairing model.
Modifications include 12:1 high comp pistons, dual oil coolers attached between frame and fairing, carbon race cans, stage 2 dynojet, no top on airbox and running a free flow air filter. Body work includes carbon mudguard, rear hugger, cam belt covers, clutch cover... Currently running Conti Radial 2000 tyres ( great compromise tyre, last well but steer like a sports tyre, you can ride off the edge and no big moments, yet!!), AP Lockheed adjustable master cylinder (finally I've got 2 finger brakes).
Anyway to the problems, I've had 4 sets of rear wheel bearings in the last 10,000 miles. No they aren't overtightened, yes all spacers are assembled correctly, yes the center spacer is the correct length. I wondered if the spindle may be bent but it doesn't seem so.
Took the bike to the Nurburgring in Germany for a 3 day training course, back end started to creak, next thing it breaks two of the 7 pins that fit the sprocket carrier in to the cush drive, OK so it was fairly hard riding but not too extreme. I've had the wheel checked and it seems to be manufactured correctly.
Has anyone else heard of anything like this, its really getting me down, even to the point where I looked at the new Honda Firestorm, sacrilge I know, so please someone rescue me from myself.
Good lines.
Would like something which will not require irreversible engine modifications and preferably does not hang on to the bevel drive.
Does someone know of a unit which has a timing sensor (Hall voltage or optical) that will mount under the flywheel in place of the stator unit and with electronic advance designed for crankshaft speed? Could even use two 1-cylinder units--.
Repair of the stator unit may be possible. Does anyone have a diagram or component list for the circuit board in the stator?

Thanks.
I would appreciate some feedback!
Thanks.
Thank you!
Thank you very much.
Thanx a lot.
My '95 916 ran without a hitch for just over a year and about 3500 miles (not exactly a flogged bike) then without telltale generator light or anything else, blew the 3 amp VR fuse and rolled to a stop. A secord VR obtained from PSC in Daytona was "hard -wired" in. (meaning the cheezy little bullet connectors were axed and replaced with butt splices and solder and the 16 guage wire replaced with heavier 14 which was rerouted away from the "hot" bits, per all the best advice I could get. Now the bike runs primo..at "total loss".. for about 40 miles before the battery craps out begging for a recharge and the dash generator light glows any time the rpms fall below 2500. I'm electrically challanged at best but have an electrical maven friend who feels he can lead me thru the various "tests" outlined in the 916 shop manual however as he points out this still may not tell us why the VR dies.
I've heard a variety of explanations, ( actually to many and some to ludicrous to recount here) but if purchasing a brand new $250.00 VR ain't the solution I'd like to have some serious help before I spring for VR#3.
Thanks very much...I hope you are connected to the answer and can help me out.
PS Were many Cadets manufactured what is their history?
Please help if you can.
P.S. I would like to take the bike out to the track and maybe do a little racing, but that is not a driving force. The majority of the rides will be some canyon riding in California and general street riding. Can I get away with a 900SSCR on the track, or do I need the SP. I have not seen to many 888 advertised and I am not aware of the pricing of them. So many questions....
If you can assist me in any way I would be gratefull.

In desperation...
Having raced street Sidecars for a few years, and now carrying out the editing role for the SCRCV in Melbourne, I’m now keen to begin uniting the world of Sidecarists to help improve the sport at all levels.
To this end, I need contact details for anyone racing, street, Gp, grass track, speedway, ice or Trial sidecars, regardless of their location on the globe. If you know of anyone racing the same and have a couple of minutes to spare, could you please either forward this request to them, or supply back to me, their email and or contact details. I’m real happy to receive letters and or faxes to the address included if they don’t have email capabilities.
I am sending this letter out to the wider Internet community, but any assistance you could offer would be gratefully received. Please feel free to copy this request and place it onto "local" Usenet groups or mailing lists in your area, or print it out for race days and club meetings in your area.
If you have any race programs or information sheets that have any information about sidecars, please fax or post them through. Likewise any club address information as well.
Thanks in advance, for any assistance.
I purchased the bike from a brand new dealer, (read not too well read in the mods department). Any mod suggestions particularly suited to my application would be great.
Would the stock silencer work with no guts inside? Harleys in my area ride drag pipes all day long, unmolested by the local peace officers.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Thanks so far and I hope to here from you.
Thanks.
I have owned a Moto Guzzi and another Ducati in the past and don't remember this pulsing. The bike is new with only 19 miles on it. Is this normal or will it smoothout?
Thanks.
Need information on the following: How do I remove the fuel filler cap insert from the tank. Any recommendations for repair of the existing tank.
Thanks.

At present I have a 48cc Cucciolo fitted into a Mountain Bike frame, but would much prefer to fit the other engines into their original frames or nearest to original. We're planning a round the world tour on these bikes someday in the future, hopefully using the original frames.
Any ideas or useful reference people (anywhere in the world) would be appreciated.
Thanks to you and bye.
See Ya,
Thanks.
Thanks.

I have just acquired a 1991 400ss Ducati. It is a beautiful bike and great to ride. Unfortunately, I have found a 3cm crack at the pivot on the aluminium swing arm. Has anyone experienced this and how can I repair this? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
My heart is convinced, but my brain needs a push. After 11 years of riding Japanese bikes I've decided it is time for a bike with character. Went to a Ducati dealership and fell in love with the 900SS CR. Here's the part where I need help-How bulletproof are Ducs today? Noticed a couple questions in the Index relating to bearing problems. Is this common? How difficult is required maintainence for a reasonably handy person?
I want to be convinced and want to ride, not push. Thanks in advance and happy trails (Spring is coming!)
I am looking for an aluminium gear selector drum for a roundcase. I met a bloke in Germany years ago who made them but I cannot find him now.
Thank you.
Thanks.
I have two Ducati's, an SP2 and Darmah. I managed to drop the SP2 on its side which caused very slight damage. I need the factory colour code so I can match the paint to original spec. Can anyone help.
The lesson learnt is - get your headlight protection happening before you charge off, snapping at the heels of your mates. They won't get away, but they will throw stones.
If anyone can E-Mail a contact number or address it would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.
What are the correct valve clearances and maximum permissible clearances before the valves have to be adjusted for a 96 900SS SP?
Please help.

I need to find a paint sparyer who I can really trust with my pride and joy. I am in the south of England. Do you know anyone WHO YOU HAVE USED PERSONALLY who you would trust this machine to?

The Swedish importers for Cagiva/Ducati are saying that it is up to me to get the British importers to cover the costs of any warranty work that I have done here in Sweden, because they did not import the bike here - but don't they get reimbursed by Cagiva/Ducati in Italy anyway? The British importers say that it is a worldwide warranty so it should be sorted out in the country where the bike is fixed. This seems to make sense to me given my understanding of "worldwide" warranty. Of course it is probably made a bit more complicated by having a Ducati warranty on the engine (it is an engine problem that I have) and a Cagiva warranty for the rest, especially now that Ducati have sold Cagiva.
Any suggestions about how to resolve this problem would be most welcome.

Would the application of a small amount of silicone grease to the back side of the pads resolve this? Any other ideas? This noise is really annoying!
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.
I want to by a 907 i.e. when I get out to Las Vegas. Should I be a little leery of this one? When I get out there, should I wait until I get my hands on some newspapers from California? I'm told that's where the bulk of 907's are at. I've also heard that body panels or no longer being made and they can get expensive. Is that true? I do quite a few long road trips and I've also heard the 916 is pretty uncomfortable. In the Sunday Chicago Tribune newspaper, there is a 1995 M-900 for sale - should I think about that one.
I know nothing about Ducati's except what I occasionally. Any input, help or information that you could give me in making a decision would be greatly appreciated!
Thank You!
Thanks for all your help.

I wonder if you could put me in contact with any one who may be able to help with the "loan" of said part or anyone who could test it to confirm its faulty.
I live in Amsterdam, Holland.
1. Has anyone else out there had any problems with carbon cans torching off?
2. If anyone has had problems, are they related to the D&D product only or is all carbon products.
3. Could the packing be burning up due to difference in fuels in various parts of country ?
4.I still like the looks and sound levels of the carbon cans and would consider purchasing (a different brand ) another set in the future if someone manufactured some with a lifetime warranty. Does anyone know any info about this.
Right now I'm a little gun-shy about buying any replacement parts from D&D because of my previous experience with both the personnel and the product. If anybody has any input please let me know.
Thanks A Lot. Droid
My advisor is a gearing expert.
Does anyone know where we can get a nice photo and/or cutaway of this part of this type engine. The example would be inspiring to grad level engineers. thanks. Al
I currently ride a Moto Guzzi V750 Strada - nice bike but a tad slow. My local dealer has a 1993 Ducati 907 in very nice condition complete with new stainless exhausts. Its done about 30,000 miles and is going for £4999. I have little knowledge of this bike, its problems or whether this is a reasonable price. I heard that there may be problems with overheating and poor night visibility from the 60W bulb. I'll obviuosly take it out for a test before buying but I'd be grateful for any pointers you can give me.
Thanks in advance. Steve Worrall (UK)

I am married with 2 daughters. Paula 27, and Margarida 23. While in Mozambique I rode a number of mopeds and motorcycles between then a Ducati moped of 48 cc (4 stroke). This machine started on the stand. The crank had a arrangement of 3 dices that engaged the engine. I believe this model to be prior to the model 60 shown in your web page. I am not sure in which year I had this machine but it was between 1957-1959.I never rode big motorcyles as in my days the big guns were the 350's and 500's. The biggest I had was a Jawa model 354, also a AJS 250 model 14. I still ride, this time a little Kawasaki Z200.
I am compiling a record (with photos) of all the machines I rode. Unfortunately I do not have photos of all, Ducati included. Would be possible that somebody has a picture of this moped that can Email me? It will be greatly appreciated.

DUCATI'S new Super Monster will have a power-packed 916 engine and not the Supersport 888 motor as originally planned. MCN revealed in March that the Italian firm was planning to update its 600, 750 and 900 Monster with a new 100bhp Super Monster. The new bike, set to go on sale in 1998, will feature a Pirelli Dragon 200/50 x 17 - the widest tyre ever to be fitted to a production machine. The machine should easily be able to top 140mph and will take the radical styling that has made the Monster range such a success to a new dimension. Under-seat exhausts will be used along with heaps of aluminium and carbon fibre on the bodywork and a 916-style single-sided swingarm. Expected to cost around £9500, the 180kg (405lb) machine will be geared for blinding acceleration. It's likely to make its first appearance at the Cologne Show in 1998, but insiders say it could be at this year's Milan Show in October, as work is progressing much quicker than expected.
Could this be for real? I´d kill for one...
